Lelouch Vi Britannia Character Analysis
One of the best written Characters of all time.
“ALL HAIL EMPORER LELOUCH!” is something that you must have heard at least once in your life even if you haven’t watched Code Geass yourself. Being the most favorited character on myanimelist.net, Lelouch is one of the most famous anime characters of all time. Today, we are going to take a closer look at this masterfully written character that also happens to be one of my personal favorite anime character of all time.
Who is Lelouch Vi Britannia?
Lelouch Vi Britannia is the protagonist of Code Geass. This boy is the son of the Emporer of Britannia called Charles Zi Britannia. After an attack that led to the death of Lelouch’s mother and the crippling of his sister Nunnally, Lelouch got extremely angry and decided to confront his father. The little boy blamed his father for leaving his mother defenseless and got banished along with his beloved little sister.
In the present, Lelouch lives under the alias “Lelouch Lamperouge” and attends Ashford Academy along with his sister.
What are his abilities?
Lelouch has the power of Geass. This power that resides inside his eyes allows him to force anyone to do anything at all! Lelouch just has to make eye contact with his victim and command them to do something.
Lelouch’s Character Development
Lelouch’s character development throughout the show is totally fascinating. Lelouch developed immense hatred for Britannia and his father after getting abandoned. In the beginning, we see that the boy only truly cares about himself, his sister and his friend. The manipulative boy has no concern for the well-being of anyone else and effectively manages to trick everyone around him.
After gaining the power of Geass, we start to learn that Lelouch really is a careless boy who just thinks of most people as toys. However, at this point, Lelouch is not really evil. He does manipulate people, but he doesn’t try to harm any innocent person.
Moving forward, Lelouch slowly starts to realize that the power of Geass is not really a blessing but a curse. Lelouch starts to turn into an evil person as he is left all alone in this entire world.
And then, in the end, after finding out the truth regarding his mother’s death. Lelouch is left stunned! He no longer has any purpose in life, and he finally realizes the true weight of all the sins that he has committed.
Lelouch’s Character is Consistent and Realistic
The number one thing that I love about Lelouch is that he has his own flaws. Unlike all the shounen protagonists out there, Lelouch’s character is consistent and realistic. I believe that Lelouch’s character is consistent because all the personality changes we see in his character are extremely realistic and make total sense.
This misunderstood guy might be manipulative and evil, but we can’t help but sympathize with him and understand his pain. In reality, Lelouch’s way of thinking just got ruined because of the awful circumstances of his life. The boy has always been a good person at heart, and we see what he is actually like only at the end of the series.
Conclusion
The number one reason why Lelouch is so well-liked by anime enthusiasts all around the world would is the fact that he is a complete badass! This anime anti-hero comes up with the best strategies and manages to confuse not only the characters in the anime itself but also the audience.
This intelligent young boy used the power of Geass to destroy the horrible world and created a new one.
