5 Comedy Anime that are Actually Funny!

Comedy has always been an integral part of the world of anime, but we all know that not every anime manages to make the right jokes at the right times. And some anime just end up repeating the same old generic and predictable jokes that we’ve seen and heard countless times already. Despite the flaws of most anime, there are still some masterworks out there that manage to captivate us with their uniquely portrayed comedy. Today, I’ll be talking about five such gems in this list of the top 5 comedy anime that are actually funny!

5. Kaguya Sama: Love is War

Love is War is a romantic comedy that is different from the other entries on this list as the primary focus of the show is romance. The anime portrays comedy in an adorable and cute way that might not be enjoyable for every single anime fan, but personally, I seriously enjoyed it. Kaguya Sama: Love is War is a slice-of-life that throws all these different and new scenarios at us in every single episode, yet it never seems to become boring or repetitive.

The plot of this anime follows the story of a boy named Miyuki Shirogane and a girl named Kaguya Shinomiya. Along with the adorable Chika Fujiwara and the gloomy yet lovable Yuu Ishigami, these two are a part of the student council at Shuchiin Academy. Miyuki is the president of the student council, and Kaguya is the vice president, and they also happen to have feelings for each other. However, for these two individuals, love is war! Neither of them is ready to confess as they want the other person to confess their love first.

4. Nichijou

Nichijou is seen by many as the perfect comedy anime, but just like the previous entry on my list, this anime is not really enjoyable for all kinds of anime fans either. Again, this slice-of-life anime portrays comedy in a somewhat cute and light-hearted manner. The anime never seems to take itself seriously and shows us the most absurd things in every single episode that we just can’t help but laugh at. Also, the animation quality of Nichijou is just too good, especially considering the fact that it is just a light-hearted slice-of-life anime.

The plot of Nichijou just focuses on the “ordinary lives” of three high school friends named Mio Naganohara, Yuuko Aioi and Mai Minakami. As the series progresses, it gets more interesting thanks to the introduction of different characters like Hakase Shinonome, Nano Shinonome and Sakamoto.

3. KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!

KonoSuba is a must-watch parody anime that makes fun of everything that is wrong with the isekai genre. The series can only really be enjoyed by the anime fans that love to watch isekai anime. KonoSuba takes all the repeated anime clichés and presents them in a very exaggerated and comedic manner. Unlike most funny anime, the anime actually has a well-built world and manages to get you completely invested after only a few episodes.

The plot of KonoSuba follows the story of a boy named Kazuma Satou, who died in the most pathetic and laughable way imaginable while trying to protect a young girl. After dying, he finds himself in front of the loud and obnoxious goddess named Aqua, who provides him with two options. He can either move on to heaven or start his life over in a fantasy world. Being a total otaku, Kazuma decides to get reincarnated in a fantasy world, and instead of taking a real weapon with him, he decides to take the goddess Aqua herself. As it turns out, this was the worst decision that Kazuma could’ve ever made as Aqua is completely useless.

2. Grand Blue

Grand Blue is a short and sweet series with only a single season that is filled to the brim with excitement, romance and comedy. My favorite aspect of this anime series would be the amazing cast of characters that you just can’t seem to get enough of. The characters don’t really have complex or in-depth personalities, but they are still super likable and dynamic in their own special ways. All the jokes in Grand Blue are delivered perfectly, and it is the perfect light-hearted show that you can decide to watch over the weekend.

Our protagonist in this anime is Iori Kitahara, who has just moved to the coastal town of Izu for his first year at college. As he starts living with his two cousins and meets all kinds of interesting characters, Iori’s life starts to get pretty interesting. We follow the daily life of this boy and all of his friends as they try to live out the most awesome college life.

1. Gintama

It’s hard to describe Gintama in only a few words! This long-running shounen comedy anime might be a little hard to get into, but once you start watching, you will instantly fall in love with every single aspect of Gintama. Gintama is a parody samurai anime that constantly hits you with the most ridiculous twists and turns that make you laugh uncontrollably. Despite being a comedy anime, all the characters in this show are extremely well-written and get us further invested in the story.

The story takes place in a world in which aliens have taken over feudal Japan, and because of a ban on swords, samurai are seen as a joke now.

However, despite all odds, Gintoki Sakata is someone who believes himself to be a true samurai. We follow the lives of Gintoki and his friends as they try to complete all kinds of strange jobs for other people.
