10 Best Anime Father (And Father Figures)

Fathers play an important role in their families as dependable role models, mentors, and caregivers.

We all have various opinions about what a good father should be like, but there are some things we can all agree on: a good father is kind, supporting, maybe a little tough at times, but generally a strong and reliable presence that you can always turn to for help. Fathers who fit the bill deserve to be honored in many ways, especially in a world where horrible examples of parenting abound.

Fathers in anime are frequently underappreciated, despite the fact that they can have a significant impact on the plot and character growth of our favorite anime characters. They might appear to be goofy, fun, and responsible, or they can be overly serious or stubborn. Still, they get the job done.

Today, we're honoring the best anime fathers and father figures with a list of our picks for the ten best. Without further ado, let’s get started.

Koro-sensei (Assassination classroom)

You're probably wondering if Koro-sensei fits on this list, and the answer is YES.

Koro-sensei was more than a teacher to the student of class 3E, he was a great father figure and mentor always looking out for his students like they were his children.

Everyone in the class loved him, as shown in the series' concluding moments when they all broke down in tears over his departure.

This scene had a profound effect on me as well. Koro-sensei will continue to live on in our hearts.

Might Guy (Naruto)

The Prideful Green Beast of Konoha is the next on the list. Guy is a likable mentor and self-proclaimed decent person. In addition to being a fantastic mentor to his mentees, notably to rock lee, you may recall Guy as the man with the funny hairstyle and the generally upbeat personality.

Guy and Rock Lee have so many characteristics in common that you'd be mistaken in assuming they're blood relations. From the hairstyle to the brows, ninja style, and even personality.

Guy expects nothing less than the best from his students and has absolute faith in their abilities. To team Guy and especially to Rock Lee, Guy is simply the best father figure that they could ask for.

Iruka Umino (Naruto)

While still on the topic of Naruto, why not mention Iruka sensei

We all know, Iruka, Kakashi, and Jiraiya all played significant roles in Naruto’s life, which makes it a difficult decision to select for the list. However, I ended up choosing Iruka because he was there for him (Naruto) when it truly matters.

Throughout Naruto's life, Iruka has always been there for him, even when he was a tiny boy and all by himself. If not for Iruka, Naruto might probably have ended up like Gaara. Also, Naruto requested that Iruka take on the role of his father for his wedding. So, yes Iruka qualifies to be on this list.

Thors Snorresson (Vinland saga)

Thors, the Jomsviking's supreme commander. During his reign, he was practically the strongest soldier, feared by everyone. But rather than going down this path of blood and fame, Thors abandons it and devotes his entire life to his family.

H's come a long way from a respected soldier to a simple farmer in a little village. He was devoted to his family and even sacrificed himself so that they may survive and find happiness.

Shiro Fujimoto (Ao no Exorcist)

Shiro is a priest, exorcist, and the adopted father of the Okumura twins. Just because he isn't their biological father doesn't make him any less of a parent, and let's face it, having literally Satan as a father sets the bar so low that it's already in hell. But Shiro steps in and raises the Okumura twins, and he did a pretty good job.

Accepting and understanding Rin uncontrollable temper, he has shown to be patient, understanding, and a wonderful dad to his son. And, spoiler alert, at the end, when things came down to it, Shiro was willing to sacrifice himself to protect Rin and Yukio. Although Shiro perished, his genuine love for his sons remains undying.

Orsi Orfai (Black Clover)

Another priest/father figure: Orsi runs the orphanage where Asta and Yuno grew up, and he treats all of the children in his care as if they were his own. He is a wonderful, honest man who is always proud of all of his children to the point of crying just to prove it.

He has demonstrated selflessness countless times by prioritizing the well-being of the children and the community. Orsi is one of the most generous fathers you'll ever meet.

While his goofy side often embarrasses his kids, they know it comes from a truly sincere and loving place, making Orsi one of the best fathers they could ever ask for.

Joseph Joestar (Jojo Bizarre Adventure)

While joseph in battle tendency is a brash hot-tempered young man who could use more discipline in his life, by the time he's gotten significantly older in stardust crusaders, he's mellowed out and dotes endlessly on his daughter, holly.

Joseph's love for his daughter is immediately apparent from the moment we see them together. He teases her and talks to her as if she were still a child. It’s clear that Joseph is fiercely protective of Holly and wants nothing but the best for her.

Despite his general dislike of the Japanese due to Holly's marriage to a Japanese man, Joseph still is a wonderful grandfather figure to his grandson Joe Taro, even more so now that Joe Taro’s biological father has passed away. When holly's life is in jeopardy, Joseph leaps into action without question and continues to show just how devoted a father he is throughout their quest.

Naofumi Iwatani (Rise of The Shield Hero)

Up next we have Naofumi Iwatani. Despite his initial desire to raise Raphtalia and Filo as slaves and fighters for himself, Fumi rapidly becomes a father figure to them, making sure that they are fed, clothed, and sheltered.

He's exceedingly protective of them and is constantly seen to be concerned for their well-being, treating them more like children than slaves who can be ordered around. He even taught them how to protect themselves, and even though they spend so much of their time fighting, he makes sure they have some fun now and then.

overall, while certainly not looking like a father given his rather young age. Fumi still proves himself to be a good parental figure to Raphtalia and Filo.

Byakuya Ishigami (Dr. Stone)

Rarely do you come across a parent that has such high regard for their child. Byakuya has complete faith in his son Senku and has never once doubted his talents.

He put through countless hours of effort and even sold his car to pay for the lab equipment Senku needed. Knowing well that his son would one day be one of the best.

Even in the face of impending doom, he had faith in his son's survival despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

He left both educational insights, as well as a heart-warming message, all to his genius son from the future.

Kouhei Inuzuka (Sweetness and Lightning)

Kohei is a single dad who is left alone to care for his five-year-old daughter Tsumugi after his wife's passing.

Kohei is entirely devoted to his daughter, he's patient and hardworking and ultimately only wants the best for her. This is what leads him to seek cooking lessons from his own student Kotori, so he can make and eat homemade meals with Tsumugi.

he seems the happiest whenever his daughter enjoys something he's made and honestly, just seeing how much hard work Kohei puts into making his daughter happy is such a heartwarming sight. He even feels bad for scolding her even if it's for her good. After all, he's never harsh or cruel without a reason.

Above all, Kohei's determination shows that even though he's already a good father he still believes that he can do better, and if it’s for Tsumugi's sake Kohei is willing to go through anything.

Honorable mentions:

  • Jouichirou Yukihira (Food wars)

  • Soichiro Yagami (Death Note)

  • Maes Hughes (Fullmetal Alchemist)

  • Akio Furukawa (Clannad)

  • All Might (My Hero Academia)

That concludes today's list. Leave your opinions in the comments area about what you think of the list and which characters you think should’ve been featured on it.
