Carole & Tuesday Review

A Music Anime that deserves more Love

Carole & Tuesday is an original music anime that was released back in 2019. While the show did manage to get pretty good reviews overall, I still believe that it deserves more popularity. The series has been beautifully animated by studio Bones, and its story has been created by Shinichiro Watanabe. In case you don’t already know, Shinichiro Watanabe has also worked on other masterpieces like Cowboy Bebop, Terror in the Resonance and Samurai Champloo.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at all the brilliant aspects of Carole & Tuesday that make it a treat for not only the fans of music anime but also anime in general.

Plot

Firstly, let’s discuss the unique plot of Carole & Tuesday that makes it different from all the other music anime out there. The story of this anime takes place in a futuristic world in which humanity has managed to make Mars inhabitable. In fact, most of the humans have already migrated to Mars, where they live extremely peaceful lives surrounded by futuristic gadgets.

As the title suggests, we have two protagonists in this story – Carole & Tuesday. Carole is a young girl that lives in Alba City. She works in the day and plays her keyboard at night. On the other hand, Tuesday is a girl who ran away from her home in Hershell City because she wants to pursue music. By chance, the two of them end up finding each other, and they quickly become inseparable. The two of them decide to perform music together; however, the road ahead of them is not going to be an easy one as AI governs the world of music.

Story Progression

The core idea of the show is simple, but it is still something unique and quite interesting. These two girls have an almost-unreachable dream, and they are ready to do about everything to turn it into reality. As the show progresses, it focuses more on the bond between Carole & Tuesday. Both of these artists are incomplete without each other, and they must help one another repeatedly.

Characters

The show introduces us to a bunch of likable characters along the way that add further depth to the story. One complaint that I have regarding this aspect of the anime would be that the side characters were not given realistic and dynamic personalities. The show only really focuses on the main characters, which is a bit sad.

All the songs are bangers!

Of course, we can’t just review a music anime without a mention of the awesome songs! There are tons of OSTs that play throughout the run of Carole & Tuesday and make the story even more interesting. As the songs are being sung by the characters in the story itself, they beautifully fit in and enhance the experience of each and every scene.

Conclusion

Carole & Tuesday isn’t really a masterpiece and does have some flaws. However, I would still call it an enjoyable anime that is a must-watch for every single weeb out there! What makes this show entertaining for all kinds of audiences is the fact that Carole & Tuesday does not really delve too deep into the complexities of making music. Instead, the show just tries to tell us a beautiful, sweet and short tale of two young girls as they take on the entire world.
