Beastars: The perfect use of CGI in Anime

Whether you are new to watching anime or not, you must know the fact that CGI in anime sucks! Anime fans all around the world loath CGI as it takes away most of the details of a series. However, despite having a bad reputation overall, there are also a few CGI anime out there that do justice to the medium. And today, we are going to be taking a closer look at one of these shows.

Beastars is a unique and beautiful short anime that can look a bit weird from afar, but you will absolutely fall in love with the story once you start watching. No, Beastars is not a “furry thing.” The show has a very delicate and realistic story with some of the most well-written characters in the entire world of anime. While the manga version of Beastars is not as popular as the anime, it is still pretty good.

Plot and Story Progression

The plot of Beastars is what makes it such an interesting and mature anime. We follow the story of our protagonist named Legoshi, who lives in a civilized society that is made up of all kinds of animals. However, this society is quite divided as there is a fine line between carnivores and herbivores that can be seen everywhere.

The distrust between the two types of animals reaches its peak after an unfortunate incident takes place at Legoshi’s academy. Tem, an alpaca who was a part of the drama club along with Legoshi, gets killed. Being a huge grey wolf, Legoshi starts to feel very insecure in his own body and tries to hide all of his carnivorous traits.

However, things start to change for Legoshi after he meets a beautiful little rabbit named Haru, who forces him to face his own true nature. As the story progresses, Legoshi also meets a lot of other interesting characters that affect his life in wonderful ways.

Characters

As you might’ve guessed already, Beastars is a character-driven show that focuses a lot on the development of all of its characters. I already talked quite a bit about Legoshi and his trouble; now, let’s take a look at the other two main characters in the story that are just as complex and hard to understand.

Louis

Louis seems to have a very manipulative and self-centered personality. This deer is loved by everyone at Cherryton Academy because of his charm. While he doesn’t really seem too kind at first, we see later on in the story that Louis can also be quite compassionate.

Haru

Haru is a pretty misunderstood character from the series as she just sleeps with every other male character in the story. In reality, the poor girl has a very dreadful life which makes her think of herself as an inferior being.

Art and Animation

Beastars is a beautiful series that shows us how CGI can be used artistically in an anime. While the style of animation does seem a bit odd at first, you get used to it pretty quickly. The entire show has been made using brilliant CGI that isn’t too slow or choppy.

The art style itself is somewhat cartoonish and cute, and it perfectly represents the true beauty of this series.

See you next time!
